Second Style Stylecast Episode 4 Show Notes

Halloween is approaching, and Second Life designers are gearing up with some incredibly creative costumes and Halloween outfits. Some of the costumes we’ve seen are very authentic and complete, some are sexy and bratty. Whatever your taste, you will find something out there on the grid to suit your mood. In fact, you don’t even have to wear the same outfit twice to all the parties you’ll be attending.

One of Second Life’s biggest costume designers is Sachi Vixen of Adam n Eve. At Adam n’ Eve, Sachi and her parter Damen Gorilla have a huge selection of clothes, shoes, jewelry, and hair. But they’re really known for two things: skins for men and women, and amazing costumes. The lineup features mostly period costumes that are suitable for fancy dress events, though there are several less formal options. Sachi passed me the flapper costume that comes complete with hair and a feather head-dress, and I grabbed a demo of her Nefertiri Egyptian Queen costume. Nothing has been neglected in either look, down to the last bugle bead on the flapper skirt and gem on the Egyptian headdress.

Of course, you have to pay for that kind of work, though at Adam n Eve, they have demos of their outfits you can take home, or to their dressing rooms, to try on. Adam n Eve also has the best selection of mens and couples costumes that I’ve seen on the grid. And they put the same amount of detail into their mens costumes as they do their womens’ costumes, though I didn’t see any bugle beads. Basically, while Adam n Eve costumes may be more expensive than some others, they’re worth it.

If you want to spend a little less, but still have a wide selection of well-done costumes, visit A Touch of Ireland’s Halloween store. AliciaKay and Meekal Kilara run this store which features a number of fun costumes and Halloween supplies. AliciaKay passed us several costumes for men and women and let us play. Daphne really enjoyed her Ghostly costume. All you have to do is add white hair and a white skin, and you’re ready to haunt the venue of your choice. The costumes based on television and movie characters are some of the most accurate ones we’ve seen in Second Life. However, the Wednesday Night costume is a bit more grown-up than the dress Wednesday Addams wore on TV.

The Scarlett in Red costume is very accurate and has great feather details, but I really love the Curtains Dress. Not only is it an accurate copy of the dress from Gone with the Wind, but it comes with a version of the prim collar that includes a curtain rod, like a spoof of Gone with the Wind from the old Carol Burnett show.

While visiting A Touch of Ireland on the Doolin Point sim, I had a chance to talk with AliciaKay. She really loves the characters that she’s captured in her costumes. She’s brought out what’s special about them, but she doesn’t take them too seriously. She told me she’s a Disney freak; which should be obvious to anyone looking at her costumes. She also told me about the time that she and her partner Meekal attended an SL wedding in their Herman and Lily Munster costumes; I just hope it was an October wedding.

Anyone looking for something cute and flirty for Halloween should check out Liquid Velvet Studios’ costumes. Most of designer Ravenlynn Templar’s costumes are based on a dress with a fitted bodice, pouf sleeves, and a flouncy tutu-like skirt. While she offers several costumes, we thought this design worked best with the bumble-bee, court jester, lady-bug and red-riding hood costumes, among others. Liquid Velvet’s costumes are fun and flirty, and several have little extras such as the stuffed rabbit that comes with the Alice in Wonderland costume. Also, be sure not to miss the “graveyard” section of the Cassiopeia Island sim where Liquid Velvet is located to check out the dollar-bie Lollipop girl costumes!

If you want a costume that’s sexy and scary, June Dion of Bare Rose has designed several that will meet your needs. She’s recently released some frightening little numbers for men and women, including the Necromancer that comes with a necklace of shrunken heads, and a skull-topped staff (the skull on top of the staff is labelled Ex BF, by the way). She also has a sumptuous vampire tuxedo that looks striking on men and women! Pick up a few of Bare Rose’s Halloween costumes, they’re surprisingly affordable!

Our final set of Halloween costumes aren’t affordable, but they are well worth the Lindens. Continuing her long line of collaborations with hair designer Calico Ingman of Calico, Hyasynth Tiramisu of Silent Sparrow has made several memorable costumes. To make shopping easier, the hair and clothing portions of the costumes (such as the Fossarius grave-digger costume and the Bloody Mary costume) are available at both store locations. The Bride of Frankenstein costume is also available at Shiny Things, where you can also find the bouquet Fallingwater Cellardoor made to go with that outfit.

However, for the first time, Calico and Hya have brought in Roslin Petion and CJ Carnot of Tete a Pied for their magnificent Spider Queen costume. All three designers took some risks with this costume. Calico told me that she simply went wild with her Lolth hair for the costume, and the result is a style with a high crown and long flowing hair reminiscent of spun silk. The Spider Queen costume is also more risque than anything we’ve seen from Hya with its very low keyhole opening in front, yet Hya’s design is as regal as anything we’ve seen from her. Also, Roslin had never done a Drow skin before, but her Spider Queen drow skin is elegant and subtly evil with it’s spider web design. The risks that these designers have taken helped them create one of Second Life’s most memorable Halloween costumes yet!
